Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any prerequisites or prior yoga experience needed?

While this training is completely accessible for anyone with active curiosity, those who have personal experiences with the practice of yoga (meditation and/or a physical practice) will have a stable foundation from which to learn. We encourage you to dive into any conscious content (blogs, social media accounts curated with intentionality, books, online yoga classes, etc) before training begins to create an open heart and open mind.

Do I have to finish all of the requirements by the time the training is over?

No, you do not. You can complete the on-demand curriculum on your own time. We have had students complete their requirements on the last day of training, and students finish over two years after their training. Just keep in mind that your motivation to complete the requirements will be highest right now with the support of your fellow trainees and regular sessions.

What does the schedule look like?

We'll meet for our in-person classroom sessions on  Wednesdays from 6 - 9:30pm + Saturdays from 8:30am - 4:30pm MST (1-hour break for lunch).

What if I can't make a session?

Life happens. If you can't attend a session, please send an email or text to Alyssa or Devon as soon as possible, you'll be assigned makeup homework.

What are the practice teaching sessions about? Do I have to teach on a student?

As a part of graduating from this training, you are required to complete five hours of practice teaching. You will upload these videos to Google Classroom under the respective assignment. A recording on your smart phone is perfect. In an optimal world, you would choose to practice teach with a "student" (like a partner, friend, etc.) so that you can receive real-time feedback. Second choice would be to simply teach yourself (ie. you're teaching out loud and moving at the same time). You will learn more by having an actual student present.

Do I need to take a certain number of yoga classes during this training?

Yes, we'll designate 5 on-demand classes each week that you'll need to make space for within your own schedule. With another 10 classes of your choice to be practiced online or in person.

All classes will be logged in your "Course On-Demand Yoga Class Practicum" sheet. You do not need to take all 50 classes over this 8-week program, though that option is available to you. Take care of your body, your mind, and simply do your best.

How long do I have complimentary access to the 'Ohana Yoga + Barre studio and 'Ohana Online?

You will have complimentary access to in-person classes at the studio during the 8-week training. You will have complimentary access to 'Ohana Online for 4-months, starting on the day you sign up for the program.

It is important that you prioritize your physical asana practice during the 8-weeks of training if you don't plan on continuing to be an ALL-ACCESS member of the studio thereafter so that you can complete those specific requirements.

Is this training Yoga Alliance certified?

Yes! Once you have completed all program requirements, you will receive a custom 200-hour Teacher Training certificate from Ohana Yoga + Barre mailed to your home.

Upon finishing this training you can register with Yoga Alliance as a 200-hour certified teacher.

How is this training organized?

We use Google classroom to house all assignments and conversations. We'll also come together in-person 2x a week to learn. You can have access to Zoom links for our weekly live sessions if you can't make it in person. You'll also get links on Union for all other classes and trainings.

What are the on-demand modules for?

A unique aspect of Ohana's Yoga Teacher Training Program is that many of your modules are on-demand. This means that you can watch them when and where you want. Each module will belong to the week's theme, and all modules will build on top of each other. You can watch these modules on your own time, but we recommend keeping up with them and watching them with a linear approach.

Are there more classes than the 2 weekly sessions?

Yes. Along with the 2 weekly classroom sessions, we'll have online videos for you to engage with according to your own unique schedule.

What is the assigned reading?

We will read two books throughout this program. The assigned reading for this program is distributed throughout each week through Google Classroom. To determine which reading you need to do, simply refer to the week's assignments, where you'll find the reading clearly assigned and broken down into pages, chapters, etc.

Do I have to do the homework on time?

As we open each week on Google Classroom, you will see a list of assignments that generally correspond with the week's content. When you turn your homework in is completely up to you. That being said, we recommend keeping up with the homework to the best of your ability. A) Because there's a lot of it. B) Because it's easier to do the homework in tandem with the week's lectures as the content is relevant.

What is the final test?

To complete this program, you will be required to pass two tests: a final teach test, and a final written test. For the teaching test, you will record yourself teaching Ohana Sequence 1 to an actual student and upload it. The written test will go live on Google Classroom at the end of the program.

Please note that the Google Test will give you inaccurate test results due to the nature of grading by case sensitivity — please wait for your program leader to notify you of your final test results.

What is on the written test?

The written test is meant to encompass all of the subjects covered in this training, which includes: yoga philosophy, anatomy, chakras, postures. For a complete list of what you may expect on the final written test, please refer to the Study Guide in your manual. Please note that you will need to study the manual content in order to do well on the final written test.

The Google Test will give you inaccurate test results due to the nature of grading by case sensitivity — please wait for your program leader to notify you of your final test results.

How long do I have access to Google Classroom?

We do not close the Google Classroom after your training, so you can access it whenever you'd like.

The Google Test will give you inaccurate test results due to the nature of grading by case sensitivity — please wait for your program leader to notify you of your final test results.

Are there any 1:1 mentoring opportunities or private time to connect with teachers?

Yes! Your Ohana leaders are available by email to schedule individual time to connect to help support the journey and your yoga training experience.

What will I need for each class?

You'll receive a digital manual after enrollment.

You will need to purchase the two required readings (details to come; less than $50 investment) as well as an additional subscription to Gaia.com to complete several videos and worksheets. The subscription includes a free trial and a minimal charge thereafter.

You'll definitely want a trustworthy device and a great internet connection for access to our Google Classroom and if you choose to do our classroom time via Zoom.

For class practice, we suggest a yoga mat, 2 blocks, a bolster or blanket, and a strap. All can be found on our Ohana Online Boutique for purchase (10% discount given after enrollment!)

Is the payment refundable?

We will not issue any refunds due to the inherent value of education contained within this course, no exceptions. However, you may join our next round of Ohana Yoga Online 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training for free to complete the virtual sessions in real-time in order to complete your certification.
